An Agile Service-Oriented Architecture

The Exigen Suite and Exigen Platform are designed with service-oriented architecture (SOA). Every solution is created by assembling a number of service components from Exigen's own library of insurance business services and common services, as well as leveraging the functionality of existing legacy or third party systems. Exigen technology is entirely based on JAVA Enterprise Edition (JEE) specifications and its associated frameworks, and deployed as a scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed, multi-tier Java implementation running on an application server. By using common technology and standards, Exigen removes the risks associated with proprietary technology lock-in and skills shortage.

The Exigen Platform Integration Service Bus, combined with the ACORD-based Business Object Model (BOM), provide the ability to integrate functionality and information from any source — either the Exigen Suite of core solutions or any legacy or third party system. The design abstracts its object management layer from the logic, process, and interaction layers using a technique called “virtual object model.”  This object virtualization technique enables business objects to render services to their clients by seamlessly accessing and persisting data by either using the Platform’s own persistence services or going to one or more external systems.

As a result, Exigen Suite solutions can benefit from the full complement of functionality via the BOM without having to deal with the complexities associated with external systems integration. Also, the isolation of this layer facilitates transition and/or consolidation of legacy systems to a component-based service-oriented architecture. For example, multiple rating or billing systems can be transitioned to a single rating or billing engine without significant perceptible change — aside from improvement — to the business users.
